Day 13: Testing the Voices
1 John 4:1
“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
Not every voice that sounds wise or spiritual comes from God. We live in a world full of opinions, teachings, and influences that may carry a form of godliness but lack its power. Scripture tells us to “test the spirits”—to weigh what we hear against the truth of God’s Word and the character of Christ. Discernment is not cynicism; it’s wisdom. Even well-meaning voices can mislead if they’re not rooted in truth. The Holy Spirit equips us to filter what we hear, ensuring we aren’t swayed by what simply “sounds good,” but are led by what is truly God.
Here are some questions to consider when you are testing whether a word is from God. First things first, it will ALWAYS align with scripture. If it contradicts God’s word, it isn’t from Him. Secondly, filter the word through the fruit of the Spirit. God’s word will always produce good fruit! Finally, seek wise counsel from matur le Christians, people who have shown that they have discernment. This should be the last step but it should be practiced. We all need support and community to help us grow!
Reflection: Who is speaking into your life—and are they sent by God?

Prayer Focus: Grant me discerning ears, Lord. Help me test every voice against Your truth and follow only what comes from You.
